A Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont employee last month received personally identifying information for MVP Health Care and Delta Dental clients, a state official said Wednesday.
The privacy breach happened June 27, and the Blue Cross staffer followed security protocols by informing the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the state Attorney General’s Office.
The information was mistakenly sent to the wrong place by a Vermont Health Connect employee.
Both the sender and recipient were under confidentiality agreements, said Lawrence Miller, chief of health care reform, and customer information was never compromised.
