Guard leader candidates promise reforms to promote and protect women
Four candidates looking to become the next leader of the Vermont National Guard appeared before lawmakers on Tuesday, and all four promised reforms that would help women gain more leadership roles and face fewer cases of sexual harassment or assault. Treatment of women has been a major topic in this race, following a VTDigger series last fall on abuse and harassment in the Guard.
UVM orders halt to all fraternity activity in aftermath of student death
The University of Vermont suspended all fraternity activity on Tuesday following the Saturday morning death of freshman Connor Gage. Police said Gage participated in fraternity activities Friday night, and preliminary autopsy results show he died of hypothermia exacerbated by intoxication.
Outdated software left municipal worker information exposed in 200 towns
A piece of software that Vermont cities and towns use to manage functions like tax bills and land records may also have exposed municipal workers’ Social Security numbers and banking information. An IT consultant reported on the flaws last month. No towns have reported any information breaches so far.
