[B]URLINGTON — Mayor Miro Weinberger announced Thursday that he will appoint Beth Anderson, his chief innovation officer, to serve as chief administrative officer during the next budgeting cycle.
She takes over from Bob Rusten, who is leaving city government.
“This is a vital position for Burlington, and I am grateful Beth’s willingness to step into the role in an interim capacity gives the city increased flexibility to choose the right candidate for the position,” Weinberger said in a statement.
Anderson will continue to serve as the chief innovation officer as well, said Katie Vane, a spokeswoman for the mayor. “We are currently exploring several options for a high-level temporary hire to support her in her dual role using the budgetary savings resulting from Bob’s departure,” Vane said.
The temporary appointment requires City Council approval. Weinberger said he will ask councilors to vote on the appointment at their next meeting Sept. 18.
Rusten, who was appointed chief administrative officer in 2013, announced in May that he would retire from city government. The mayor and other colleagues credit Rusten with helping to restore Burlington’s credit rating, creating a long-term infrastructure plan and shepherding needed reforms to the city’s pension system.
