BURLINGTON — The city’s electric utility is offering a rebate for residents who purchase or lease new electric cars, officials announced Tuesday. The rebate is intended to help Burlington meet Vermont’s renewable energy standard.
“Today’s launch serves as another example of Burlington Electric’s ongoing commitment to build a sustainable energy future that reduces carbon emissions and supports a growing economy and a thriving community,” said Neale Lunderville, Burlington Electric Department’s general manager, in a statement.
The department is offering a $1,200 rebate to customers who purchase or lease certain electric cars with a suggested retail price of $50,000 or less.
The rebate is available to all commercial or residential customers who register their newly purchased electric vehicles in Burlington, but a qualifying car can be purchased anywhere. The rebate is available through the end of 2017, and it may be renewed or modified.
