Gov.-elect Phil Scott got a preview of his new office this week.
The newly elected Republican met with Gov. Peter Shumlin on the Fifth Floor of the Pavilion for about half an hour Thursday afternoon, two days after easily defeating Democrat Sue Minter.
Scott and Shumlin worked together over the last six years with Shumlin in the governor’s office and Scott as lieutenant governor. Scott attended some of the Shumlin administration’s cabinet meetings.
They also overlapped when both served in the Vermont Senate.
After their tête-a-tête this week, Shumlin and Scott were all smiles.
For the first part of the meeting, members of Shumlin’s team and Scott’s transition staff discussed the details to ensure a smooth transition as Scott undertakes the hiring, policy development and budget processes, according to Jason Gibbs, a transition team leader.
After the staff left, the two met privately.
Shumlin also passed along advice about the importance of hiring good people into the administration.
Scott will take the oath of office in early January.
